Formula 1 is the FIA world championship for single-seater Grand Prix racing. Drivers compete for an individual title while their results also contribute to their team's constructors' championship. Teams develop their own cars within a shared set of regulations, making engineering, driving and race strategy closely connected.
A race weekend brings practice, qualifying and the Grand Prix together. Practice gives teams time to understand the circuit and their car, while qualifying determines starting positions. Some events also include a Sprint, adding another race and a different sequence of sessions to the weekend.
The running order tells only part of the story. Tyre condition, pit stops and traffic can change which driver has the advantage as a race develops. Following the gaps between cars alongside the session timetable helps explain both the fight for a race win and the longer championship contest.
